If we really want to see changed and developed Nepal first we need to become pro active and start thinking on possible ways that we can contribute from our side to make Nepal really New looking. Yatra, a youth led organization has now started working with youth encouraging pro activism in social issues. Yatra defines pro activism as not looking towards any body to solve your problem or towards making your place beautiful rather being self motivated to change or improve it. Youth themselves should vision their future and should work towards achieving it. They should not wait any one else to make their vision achieved. In the initial phase Yatra is working on making youth understand their responsibilities. They are reminded for the small things that they can do to make their place beautiful. Now we need to be creative and prove that Nepalese are capable of making New Nepal.
Similarly different organizations have started doing several pro active works to make New Nepal. We all know Kathmandu valley has been facing different kind of pollution, visual pollution is one of the pollutions that we are facing and the issue is not taken into the consideration at all. Kathmandu valley is loosing its aesthetic value due to the Advertisement boards (hoarding boards) placed without planning and with no control. However, one organization has started to use billboard for giving social message at the heart of Kathmandu, their work is really very appreciable. By the means of creative art they are giving social messages using billboards. Usually billboards are used for the commercial purpose, but this time and I think first time ever in Nepal the concept has been implemented where the commercial place and tools are used for giving the social message. While walking down the street from Singhdurbar to Putalisadak chowk one can observe many commercial billboard, on the same street, these days we can observe one billboard giving different message. I suggest my readers to visit the place and find the different billboard and send your suggestion and feedback to mailto:lasanaa07@20gmail.com and if you want to find more details about this initiation please check http://www.differentvoices.org/.
Our voice always counts… so give your different opinion and ideas that can be useful and be pro active, don’t wait others to solve your problems.

This is a great idea of using billboards to spread social messages in the community. I think it will be very effective. I also visited the website differentvoices.org and had few thoughts in my mind i wanted to share with all of you.
I am a woman, lucky enough to be born in an educated middle-class family and to get the chance of completing my education to the level I wanted to. After SLC, apart from giving me support and guidance, my parents never interfered with my decisions on the matter of my education and career pursuit. I understand that there are many girls in rural parts of Nepal who have to leave school in the middle to help their parents with the household work and there are many more who don't even get a chance to start their basic education. In such condition, it does not always make sense to seperate 50% of seats to women. If in any case, there are not enough women who qualify for those 50% of seats then it will be yet another compromise for the country in the name of feminine equality. If we want equality between men and women, we need to educate all the women first, give them equal rights to attain as much education as they want. Then I am sure we won't even need to designate certain percentage of any positions or seats for women, there will be women who will be holding their positions on basis of their qualification itself. Through out the history, women have shown that if they want to acheive something nothing can stop them. So, isn't it our duty to give every women of this country a chance to see what opportunities lie infront of them and then let them decide for themselves and not just preach about feminine rights in the urban streets?
Niraj, I don't know if this is the place to write about it but there was another thing i noticed in one of the billboards which goes like this:
"नारी दमन नारी बाटै भए नारी अधिकार खोज्न आवाज मात्र किन? आवाज होईन व्यबहारमा उतारौ् कदम पहिले आफैँ बाट शुरुवाट गरौं।"
I don't know if any one noticed but they have printed शुरुवाट in stead of शुरुवात. I know this is a minor mistake yet, i think if we want to save our language we should be more careful about making such mistakes in public messsages. Our language is degrading day by day and if we are not careful we will soon loose it. I must say that i am one of those who find it easier to write in english than in nepali, still i wish to see our language live forever.
[Niraj, i don't know what exactly Yatra does, but after reading few of your blogs it looks like you guys are doing your part of work to make this country a better place. All the best for your good works, may your dreams come true!]
Perhaps we even under-estimate our own potential as individuals and as communities acting outside of government and beuocratic organisations.
In 2008 I helped start a group that hopes to bring free wild growing food to the city of Brisbane. I also helped start an annual festival which aims to inspire a market for the solutions for a better world. These were both community initiatives which local government either supports openly or turns a blind eye to.
I've found that power in the built environment actually resides with the people who live there. In a town we're surrounded by things that began as somebody's dream, who then planned it, built it, bringing it to life. Every community has these dreams to make improvements to their world and when they get together they start to help each other make them happen. It's probably some human trait that we often forget.
My point is that Pro-activism is about building towards the world we want. In time, if we share our dreams amongst as many people as possible, they come to life. In the meantime it's a matter of providing as opportunities for others to be participate and have some ownership of this great accomplishment. Governments might help but it's up to you.
Keep up the good work Niraj. Your country is proud of you I'm sure.
